Design feature
The reciprocating grate mainly consists of fixed grate plates, movable grate plates, transmission mechanisms, and reciprocating mechanisms. The tail end of the movable grate plate is secured to the movable crossbeam, while its front end directly rests on the adjacent lower fixed grate plate, forming a stepped structure with a certain inclination angle to facilitate the downward movement of fuel. The movable grate plate is driven by an electric motor through an eccentric wheel, which in turn moves the push-pull rod for reciprocating motion, with a stroke of about 30-100 millimeters and a reciprocating frequency of 1-5 times per minute.
Combustion process and characteristics
The combustion process of reciprocating grate furnaces is similar to that of chain grate furnaces. Fuel falls from the hopper and enters the furnace through a regulating gate. Under the reciprocating movement of the moving grate, the fuel slowly moves from front to back along the inclined grate surface, sequentially undergoing preheating and drying, volatilization and ignition, coke combustion, and ash combustion. A key feature distinguishing reciprocating grates from chain grates is the relative motion between the grate and the fuel. The continuous scraping action of the moving grate improves ignition conditions, enhances bed turbulence, and promotes complete combustion.
The advantages of reciprocating grate
Wide range of coal types: suitable for burning low quality coal with high moisture and ash content and low calorific value and coking coal.
High combustion efficiency: the carbon content in ash is low, usually 18%~20%, which is 5%~10% lower than that in hand-fired furnace ash, which can save coal and reduce black smoke.
Simple structure: easy to manufacture, low metal consumption, less power consumption.
The disadvantages of reciprocating grate
High furnace body: due to the inclined grate, the furnace body is high.
Strict particle size requirements: the coal particle size requirements are more strict, the diameter should not exceed 40mm, otherwise it is difficult to burn through.
High temperature area is easy to damage: the grate plate in the high temperature area is in contact with red-hot coal layer for a long time and is easy to burn out.
Poor adaptability: poor adaptability to boiler load changes, only suitable for boilers with evaporation capacity below 40t/h.
