Hard alloy is an alloy material made by powder metallurgy process from hard compounds of refractory metals and binder metals.

Classification of cemented carbide
① Tungsten-cobalt cemented carbide (WC-Co) is primarily composed of tungsten carbide (WC) and cobalt binder (Co). Its grade is indicated by 'YG' (the initial pinyin of 'hard' and 'cobalt') followed by the percentage of cobalt content. For example, YG8 indicates an average WCo ratio of 8%, with the remainder being tungsten carbide. ② Tungsten-titanium-cobalt cemented carbide (WC-Ti-Co) is mainly composed of tungsten carbide, titanium carbide (TiC), and cobalt. Its grade is indicated by 'YT' (the initial pinyin of 'hard' and 'titanium') followed by the average titanium carbide content. ③ Tungsten-titanium-niobium (Nb) cemented carbide (WC-Ti-Nb) is mainly composed of tungsten carbide, titanium carbide, tantalum carbide (or niobium carbide), and cobalt. This type of cemented carbide is also known as general-purpose or universal cemented carbide. Its grade is indicated by 'YW' (the initial pinyin of 'hard' and 'universal') followed by the sequence number, such as YW1.
