Performance Characteristics Of Polyurethane / Glass Fiber Composite Materials

After several years of development, foreign polyurethane pull extrusion molding has been commercialized. In the process of polyurethane pulling and squeezing, more enhanced fibers can be used, so that the strength of the product is greatly increased. At the same time, due to the excellent impact strength, tensile strength and interlayer shear strength of the polyurethane itself, the products can be made thinner and lighter.
For example, a thinner I-beam can be made with less continuous original silk felt and more untwisted roving yarn, reducing the thickness of the I-beam from 3.3mm to 2.6mm, while maintaining its longitudinal stiffness unchanged. This reduces the product by weight by 13% and cost by 7%. In addition, because the extrusion polyurethane products are less brittle, they can be assembled in a conventional way without cracking and crushing.
Specifically, the use of polyurethane pull extrusion technology has obvious advantages in the following aspects.(1) Up to four or five different glass fiber felt may be required. These felt must be cut and shaped. Using polyurethane pull squeeze, often can use glass fiber without twist roving instead of glass fiber felt. The elimination of the glass fiber felt reduces the cost of raw materials and the labor cost of operating the felt. The felt is also easily broken, and the debris can block the machine, affecting production. Eliminating felt can increase production speed in many cases, thus increasing cost effectiveness. On the other hand, after replacing felt with untwisted roving, the fiber volume content can increase to about 80%, while the fiber content of most non-polyurethane pull-extrusion products is 60%. In this way, higher glass fiber content is combined with better performance resin to create a polyurethane extrusion profile with better strength and stiffness.(2) The higher strength properties of polyurethane pull-extrusion products open up some new applications. These products can be used for incompetent purposes of polyester resin in place of steel and aluminum in the construction, infrastructure and transportation markets.(3) It is relatively simple, convenient and economical to convert the original pull and squeezing system into polyurethane pull and extrusion system, without large investment. The original die head, heater and unit can still be used.(4) In addition to the above physical properties and molding advantages, polyurethane pull and extrusion parts also have the advantages of assembly, especially the convenience of fastening. Due to the strength of polyurethane, there is no need to predrill when loading the screw on the polyurethane product, which can save time and labor. In turn, the force required to pull the screw in the polyurethane product is more than twice the force required to pull the screw.(5) Under the same fiber structure, all the properties of polyurethane / glass fiber pull-extrusion products are better than those of ordinary thermosetting resin, with close bending modulus, impact strength greatly improved, high drawing strength of screw, good opening crack resistance, excellent wear resistance, good secondary processing ability, heat resistance of more than 240 degrees.
