Sand casting is a type of casting process. The molds used in sand casting are generally composed of an outer sand mold and a core. Because the molding materials used in sand casting are inexpensive and readily available, and the mold manufacturing is simple, it can adapt to the single-piece production, batch production and mass production of castings. For a long time, it has always been a basic process in casting production. At present, internationally, in all casting production, 60 to 70% of castings are produced by sand molds, and about 70% of them are produced by clay sand molds.

Sand casting refers to the method of producing castings in sand molds. Steel, iron, and most non-ferrous alloy castings can be obtained using the sand casting method. Due to the inexpensive and readily available molding materials used in sand casting, as well as the ease of mold manufacturing, it has long been a fundamental process in casting production, suitable for both single-piece, batch, and mass production.


Sand casting wear parts for sand casting crushers are still very common in China, such as jaw plates, high-chromium hammer plates, crushing walls, and grinding pit walls. In crushing equipment, these wear parts are relatively large and not very precise. For example, the jaw plates produced almost do not require lathe polishing, while only certain areas of the crushing walls, grinding pit walls, and roller skins need lathe polishing. Therefore, sand casting is particularly suitable for these parts because the wear-resistant components of sand-cast jaw plates, high-chromium hammer plates, crushing walls, grinding pit walls, and roller skins are more durable by over 20% compared to products made using lost-wax casting. However, lost-wax casting offers higher dimensional accuracy, smaller machining allowances, easier removal of dry sand, and a reduction in cleaning and polishing work by more than 50%, thus saving labor costs, making the price of lost-wax casting relatively lower.

Products Description

 

Cast iron is an iron-carbon alloy with a carbon content greater than 2.11%. It is obtained through high-temperature melting and casting of industrial pig iron, scrap steel and other steel and their alloy materials. Besides Fe, it also contains other substances. The carbon in cast iron precipitates in the form of graphite. When the precipitated graphite is in the form of strips and flakes, the cast iron is called gray cast iron or gray cast iron; when it is in the form of worm-like particles, it is called vermicular graphite cast iron; when it is in the form of flocs, it is called malleable cast iron or ductile iron; and when it is in the form of balls, it is called ductile iron.
The chemical composition of ductile iron, apart from iron, is usually as follows: carbon content 3.0-4.0%, silicon content 1.8-3.2%, total manganese, phosphorus and sulfur content not exceeding 3.0%, and an appropriate amount of rare earth, magnesium and other spheroidizing elements.

 

Main performance characteristics of ductile iron parts


1. High strength and toughness: Tensile strength covers the range of 400-1500MPa (adjusted by heat treatment), yield strength is better than that of steel of the same grade, and "iron instead of steel" can be achieved. The elongation rate can reach up to 24%, significantly higher than gray cast iron, meeting the requirements of plastic deformation for high load components.
2. Fatigue and rigidity: The fatigue strength is close to the level of 45 steel, which is suitable for crankshaft, gear and other components subjected to cyclic load. The elastic modulus is higher than that of gray cast iron, and the rigidity is better, which can maintain the dimensional stability of the components under long-term load.
3. Wear resistance: spherical graphite reduces stress concentration, the strength utilization rate of metal matrix reaches 70%-90%, and the wear resistance is better than that of gray cast iron and ordinary cast steel.
Suitable for clutch plate, engine parts and other friction conditions.
4. Corrosion resistance: in non-acidic medium corrosion resistance is better than gray cast iron and ordinary steel, which can be further improved by coating or alloying.
