Products Description

 

The selection of materials for casting components needs to take into account the casting process, performance requirements, and cost-effectiveness. It mainly falls into two categories: metallic materials and non-metallic materials.
I. Metal Materials
Cast iron type
Gray cast iron: Contains 6.9% to 7.8% carbon, has good fluidity and low shrinkage rate, suitable for mechanical parts such as machine tool beds and engine cylinder blocks.
Spheroidal graphite cast iron: Has higher strength and toughness. More than 60% of castings use it, suitable for load-bearing components such as pipe elbows and gear blanks.
Cast steel type
The carbon content is 0.25% to 0.45%, and the pouring temperature can reach up to 1500℃. Attention should be paid to secondary pouring to ensure proper cooling. It is used for high-load components such as rolling mills and mining machinery.
Non-ferrous metal alloys
Aluminum alloy: Casting temperature 680℃, ideal for lightweighting, such as automotive engine cylinder heads and smart home accessories.
Copper alloy (tin bronze, silicon brass): Wear-resistant and heat-conductive, suitable for bearings and valves.
Magnesium/titanium alloy: High-end materials for aerospace, with high strength and corrosion resistance.


2. Key Factors for Material Selection
Process Compatibility: High-temperature alloys require refractory sand with high melting point; for complex structural components, materials with good fluidity should be preferred.
Cost Control: For mass production, cast iron or plastic molds can be selected.
By selecting appropriate materials, it is possible to balance performance and cost. For instance, in the automotive industry, aluminum die-cast parts are commonly used to achieve lightweighting, while in heavy machinery, high-strength cast iron or cast steel is relied upon.
