It is mainly used in chain grate boilers, with the functions of supporting the weight of the grate, guiding the running direction of the grate, and reducing the friction during the movement of the grate. It is commonly found in the grate drive systems of coal-fired and biomass boilers. Such parts are generally cast from cast iron or cast steel and need to have the properties of heat resistance and wear resistance.

The grate idler rollers are the core component of a chain grate boiler, mainly used to support and drive the grate plates to ensure uniform combustion of the fuel. Their application and adaptability vary depending on the type of boiler and the characteristics of the fuel.
In coal-fired boilers, the idler rollers need to withstand high temperatures and wear caused by coal ash. Common materials used are heat-resistant cast iron (such as HT250, HT300) or heat-resistant steel (such as ZG40Cr25Ni20Si2).
In a pellet fuel boiler, the idler rollers need to be able to withstand the high-temperature corrosive gases produced by the combustion of biomass pellets. Heat-resistant steel idler rollers (such as those made of 2535Nb material) are more suitable due to their better corrosion resistance and higher temperature strength.
In terms of adaptability to working conditions, the idlers need to be made of materials that are suitable for the combustion temperature, fuel ash content, and corrosiveness.
The grate idlers are mainly made of two materials: heat-resistant cast iron and heat-resistant steel.
Heat-resistant cast iron such as HT250 and HT300 has a lower cost, good wear resistance, but is relatively brittle and is suitable for medium and low temperature applications.
Heat-resistant steels such as ZG40Cr25Ni20Si2 (2520), 2535Nb, and 3Cr24Ni7SiN have superior heat resistance and corrosion resistance, and are suitable for high-temperature and harsh environments.
